The Child's Play/Chucky franchise is long-running media franchise revolving around the titular killer doll of the same name, portrayed by primarily by Brad Dourif. Many supporting characters also appear alongside Chucky, such as Andy Barclay, Tiffany Valentine, Glen/Glenda/GiGi, and Nica Pierce. The first film that marked Chucky's bloody debut, Child's Play, released on November 9, 1988. Shortly after the success of the original film, a sequel, Child's Play 2, was developed and released on November 9, 1990. A year later, the third instalment of the franchise, Child's Play 3, was released on August 30, 1991, capping off the original Child's Play trilogy.
After a long hiatus between films, the fourth instalment of the franchise, Bride of Chucky, was released seven years later on October 16, 1998, ushering in a new era of the film series that featured more dark comedy, also marking the arrival of Jennifer Tilly's Tiffany Valentine. Six years later, the fifth instalment, Seed of Chucky, released on November 11, 2004. It was the mixed reception to this film that brought about another hiatus.
Nine years later, Chucky returned with the sixth instalment, Curse of Chucky, released on September 24, 2013 which noticeably leaned back into straight horror territory that predecessors had lacked, introducing a new protagonist in the form of Nica Pierce. Four years later, the seventh and latest film instalment, Cult of Chucky was released on October 3, 2017. On June 21, 2019, a remake/reboot of the original film was released, simply titled, Child's Play.
Following the latest film, it was announced that the franchise would introduce a television adaption, titled Chucky. The first season premiered on October 12, 2021, and concluded on November 30, 2021. The second season premiered on October 6, 2022, and concluded on November 23, 2022. The third season was split into two parts, the first of which premiered on October 4, 2023 and the second of which is set to premiere in 2024.
